Canon ixus 800is - Personal review

First impressions: whilst this camera is larger and heavier than my ixus 40 and ixus 50, I must say that in practice the difference is negligible. It appears to be a wonderful camera, although at the moment it is rather expensive. However Canon seems to have put right just about every gripe I've had with previous models, and made many worthwhile improvements.

Things I like: (in no particular order) optional gridlines for aiding level horizons, near-silent operation (which suggests a high standard of design and engineering), easier access to some controls, higher capacity battery (probably necessary due to larger screen?), faster operation (and I thought the ixus 40 was fast!), auto-rotation during playback as well as shooting, the description of each mode on screen as it is selected (not just a meaningless symbol), ...

And the image stabilisation feature (one reason why I chose this camera in particular) ?? I haven't been able to test this feature yet, to see what difference it makes!

One complaint I have is that the stitch assist (panorama) mode is still not easy to access(with the ixus v3 it was a simple twist of a dial).

Please note: I am still away on my first trip with this camera and so will update this page properly when I return.

Update: my camera was stolen, one week into my holiday, and only two weeks after buying it :-( So I won't be able to provide any more information on this camera, sorry.
