Quicklook Reference The following section is a complete guide to all menus and commands in Quicklook. The commands from each menu are discussed in the same order in which they appear on the screen. FILE MENU COMMANDS: Open Loads an existing raster file Order Writes a file with order information Exit Closes Quicklook OPEN: The Open command opens an existing source file. The source file has to be a sun raster file, with the size 460832 Bytes. This is the case for all quicklooks from the University of Dundee. After a few seconds the grid file and the image will be displayed. It is a good idea to copy the files and Quicklook into one directory onto the hard disc. To view more then one image at once, simply start Quicklook as many times as you want (and your computer memory allows). To load a file : 1.From the File menu choose open. The Open File dialog box appears. 2.Select the drive from the right list box. 3.Select the directory from the right list box. 4.Select a file from the left list box by double clicking, or pressing the OK button. ORDER: The Order command creates a file SENDAT.TXT, that contains all necessary information about the users data wishes. The University of Dundee will be able to select the equivalent piece choosen by the user in the original data. All parameters that will be written into the SENDAT.TXT file are displayed. It is important that the user enters his name and address into the edit field (up to 80 characters). It is enough to enter this once for every order, even if many files are ordered. Pressing the Order button will cause a 200 bytes long string to be created. If the file already exists 200 bytes will be appended. The file SENDAT.TXT can be loaded into any editor and changed. The user has to delete the file himself, if he plans a new order and does not want to reorder the previous files. Parameters: 1.Box Size: Size of the original data the user wants to order. 2.Coordinates: Upper left corner in the original data. 3.Date: Day and year when the flight was recorded. 4.Channel: Which AVHRR-channel or NDVI. 5.Orbitnum: Which orbit during the satellites life-cycle. 6.Dirn: Direction of the satellite. 7.Sat: Which satellite in the NOAA-series. 8.User name: max. 80 characters. EXIT: The Exit command closes Quicklook. Shortcut key: Alt+F4. OPTIONS MENU COMMANDS Invert Inverts the grey shades Box Size Lets the user change the box size Coordinates Displays coordinates in quicklook and original data Information Displays the information of the text file Grid Lets the user choose grid combinations WriteDIB Writes the raster file as *.bmp file into the directory INVERT: The Invert command can be ticked and will cause the colours to be inverted. This might cause problems on some screens. Choosing the Invert command again will restore the original image. BOX SIZE: Choosing this command lets the Box Size dialog box appear. The user can choose, by pushing radio buttons, the box size he wants. Pushing the Cancel button will result in no change of the box size. There are four different box sizes: 512 x 512 1024 x 1024 1536 x 1536 2048 x 2048. The box is displayed by keeping the left mouse button pushed down inside the caption area. If the mouse is moved at the same time the box "floats". The box cannot leave the image. The boxes change size when they float as the panorama correction that is part of processing the quicklook has to be taken out again. The raw data that is distributed is not panorama corrected. COORDINATES: When the Coordinates command is choosen, the Coordinates dialog box appears. This displays the present box size and the present coordinates of the upper left box corner in the image. It also shows recalculated coordinates in the original data. The check box on the bottom allows the user to chose a steady display of the quicklook coordinates. Pushing the Order>> button will cause the Order dialog box to appear. Pushing the OK button will end the dialog box. INFORMATION: Choosing the Information command lets the Information dialog box appear. This contains information from the text file that comes along with each raster file. Pushing the OK button will end the dialog box. GRID: If the Grid option is pressed the Grid dialog box appears. The user can choose from three radio buttons. The default button is "Grid on", this means that both the grid and the image are displayed."Grid off" will result in only the satellite image being displayed. Finally the "Grid only" command leads to the result, that only the grid without the image is displayed. The options are chosen by pushing the OK button. Pushing the Cancel button will also end the dialog box but leads to no change. WriteDIB: Again a dialog box will appear. It will tell the user the name of the device independent bitmap that is created, when the WriteDIB button is pushed. The filename syntax: .bmp. This is an important option in a Windows environment, as it allows to load the created file into any Window application. Double clicking the file name in the file manager will cause the satellite bitmap to be loaded into PAINTBRUSH, the paint programm that comes for free with Windows. The satellite image can now be edited like any other document. If the Cancel button is pushed the dialog box is ended without creating a *.BMP file. HELP MENU COMMANDS Help Gives some basic advices About Contains the copy right HELP: The Help dialog box is just a list of basic advices, how to avoid errors.
