MERSI is a scanner carried aboard the third FengYun ("Wind and Cloud") series of meteorological satellites launched by China.
FY-3A, launched June 2008, operates from a sunsynchronous polar-orbit at an average altitude of 836.4km. At this orbit FY-3A crosses overhead at about 10:10 a.m. local time everyday.
FY-3A carries a version of MERSI which images 20 spectral bands:
