When this image was received Severe Tropical Cyclone Rusty was tracking in a southerly direction approaching Western Australia's Pilbara coast. The Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre in Perth reported that Rusty was at this time a Category 3 storm (Australian tropical cyclone intensity scale) with a 10-minute average sustained wind speed of 75 knots (140 km/h).
