Hurricane Sandy is shown tracking in a north north-easterly direction over Cuba as a Category 2 storm (Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale) with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110 mph. The National Hurricane Center reported that Sandy had made landfall on the south-east coast of Cuba just west of Santiago de Cuba at 0525 UTC.
