Fog cover can be seen in the Western Mediterranean stretching from North East Spain, the Balearics, the Gulf of Lion and along France's Riviera coast to the Gulf of Genoa. Outwith these areas affected by fog the land is mostly cloud free. Snow cover is visible over mountainous regions with the Alps particularly striking. Sediment from river runoff discolours coastal waters off Algeria, mainland Italy, Sicily and Tunisia.
