Dundee Satellite Receiving Station
New Antenna

A new antenna was installed on Sunday 22 October 2000 for better reception from EOS satellites and other high data rate satellites in the future. It is placed atop the Dental Hospital along with our 2.4m antenna and replaces the old 1.8m antenna. Until the system is fully commissioned we also have a 1.2m antenna on the roof for AVHRR and SeaWiFS reception.

The reflector is 2.8m diameter and made of carbon fibre. It is mounted upon a pedestal designed by Dundee Satellite Systems and build by a local engineering company, Farmor. The motors are mounted in an X-Y arrangement which is different to the Azimuth/Elevation style of all our other antennae.

A dual mode feed allows reception from both S-band transmission (ie. AVHRR and SeaWiFS) and X-band (MODIS etc.).

Latest news: (10 May 2001) the "front end" has been upgraded. Some blue skies were installed (for this week only) in order to take the lovely photographs below. Weather will return to normal next week.
